Lots of different things has been going on since the last entry, and of course I have seen quite a few shows…
The first one would be Swim at the Mad Frog in Cincy. This was only my second or third time seeing them, and I enjoyed this one more than the few before. They are a little different than most of the bands that I usually go see, but these guys are really talented and are doing pretty well. It’s always cool to see a cello being played in a somewhat heavy band. I was really impressed with these guys this time around, and I’m gonna have to pick up a cd sometime. After the show, we all went back over to Liam’s place, where fighty, peter and I played some for the small crowd there. It was fun, and we tried some songs we hadn’t really done before, mainly on requests from the people there…
The week after that show was pretty uneventful, although I did go to One Eyed Jack’s to see a band called Worldwide. They are a funk band I guess you could say. Seven guys in the band, each with different influences that come together really well. For those of you out there who knew about Ordinary Peoples, these guys are the closest I have seen to being a replacement. I went to this show after running into one of Amanda’s friends, Lindsay, in the mall. It was great to get to sit and talk to her and Sara again, who both lived with Amanda a couple years back. I will definitely have to check these guys out more often…
That brings me to this past weekend, which was a really tiring but fun one. First of all, after work on Friday, I went straight up to Columbus with fighty and liam. Fighty and I played some over a Joe Vedder’s place after freebase played a few songs for us. We had a good time and actually got some of the songs recorded again. After all that was over, we went up to the newport to catch Red Wanting Blue. This show was probably the best I have seen the play, and of course the beers were flowing very well. We hit up some parties and such, with a fairly large crowd of people. Nothing can beat going around OSU’s campus with Wacko, Kraut and Liam put together. Oh yeah, Kraut also loaned me his minidisc for awhile, since he has no use for it. So I now am a taper. :) Thanks Jay!
Saturday, Liam and I went up to Dayton to visit my brother and catch a Woodside Quinn show. We did some pre-gamming in the dorm, and got a chance to meet a girl that my bro is talking to now, Julie. She is such a cutie, and very nice as well. We drug both of them to the show, and I think that they both enjoyed it pretty well. I attempted to record this show, but had some problems with the levels and such. Give me a break though, it was my first time! I also found out that Scott (saxophone) had quit the band, so it was pretty different without him there. They are going to start searching for a new guy to join the band though. I wish them all the best of luck. After the show we went all around campus going to parties and had a great time. I think we finally ended up in bed around 5. I hope to visit him up there more often, especially since the school year is almost over.
Last night, I saw Woodside Quinn again, this time in Oxford at the Stadium. I patched out of a guy with a taping rig and got a great pull. I’m gonna try and convert it this week so keep your eyes open. The crowd, who was mainly there to see Oval Opus, really took a liking to Woodside. I think these guys are doing great. It really wasn’t too exciting of a night after that.
That bring me to today, where I feel very tired and slow, but that’s the sign of a good weekend. :)
