After work last night I stopped at the local VW dealer and picked up the part that was going bad in our car, a brake light switch. I guess these things are constantly going bad in VW’s and there is even a recall out on some of them but not for our car. Anyway, the switch cost around $17 but to have them install it would have cost at least $60 and perhaps more than $100, depending on the amount of labor. I then went to the hardware store and picked up a package of bits for my little drill costing an additional six bucks. With all the necessary equipment and a great set of directions, I successfully replaced this switch in 15 or 20 minutes with no problems at all and it only cost a little more than $20!
Mike came over and we cooked up some chicken parmesan along with pasta and sweet potato fries. It was quite the meal and I think I might still be stuffed from it. After that we checked out some of our camping supplies for this weekend and then headed to bed. I think we are gonna go out and buy some more supplies tonight…

What’s up Ed? Are you heading to Wakarusa this weekend?
June 14th, 2005 at 9:12 amWe sure are! Guess I never really mentioned where we were going, haha. Kim and I are thinking of heading out on Thursday after work to secure a camping spot and to catch a show or two. We’ll then head home to get some sleep, work most of the day Friday and then head back out for the weekend. This way we don’t have to mess with setting up on Friday since we will already be getting in late. Are you heading out that way???
June 14th, 2005 at 9:18 am[...] A couple of days ago, I replaced the brake light switch in the Jetta AGAIN! I can’t believe after making four revisions to this part, VW still messed something up and had to produce a fifth version. Over the weekend, I noticed the brake lights were stuck on and I immediately knew the problem. I took out the switch I put in a year ago and tried to reset it. When I reinstalled it the lights were still stuck on, so I took the switch out again and left it out. Probably not the best idea, but we only drove the car a few times without the switch, and thus without the brake lights working at all. [...]
