In my quest to visit all 50 states before the age of 30, I will be traveling down to Texas this coming weekend. Kim and I both took Friday off to get an early jump on things. We will be flying to Austin in the morning and staying one night there. Saturday we will be renting a car and driving down to San Antonio for another night. And then on Sunday we will complete the voyage by driving up to Dallas. Kim has a work function in Dallas most of next week, and I will fly back to Denver later that evening. We have a couple of things planned already, but are always up for some expert advice. Our travel itinerary can be viewed here.

the river walk in san antonio is pretty cool, the alamo is not very impressive if you ask me…

Kim has good memories of the river walk from years ago. We are definitely going to spend some time there. I tried to get our hotel there but made a rare priceline error. However, we are still less than a mile away. I figure we’ll at least stop by the alamo, if nothing else to take a few photos.

My two co-workers might have some good ideas. One of them use to live there and when to UT and the other just went to Texas not more than a year ago. I will send them your link and let them post their comments or suggestions. Sounds fun!

Texas is big. one night in Austin is wayyy too short. and one night in SA. same thing.
    Austin
    – Capitol building – very cool
    – broken spoke for some two steppin’
    – people will say Stubb’s in downtown for bbq, but the real place is just outside of austin – http://www.saltlickbbq.com/
    – but for the best view of Austin go to barton springs and eat at chuy’s http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=austin+tx&sll=39.149039,-84.42689&sspn=0.013396,0.017574&ie=UTF8&ll=30.263464,-97.763193&spn=0.001865,0.002197&z=19&layer=c&cbll=30.263527,-97.763261&panoid=imaAPkSW9vNWjZwqpjYMoQ&cbp=12,1.3812377073846855,,0,-0.5494505494505545

yike that was a messy url. anyway. whatever you do you’ll have a blast.

Thanks guys. Todd, you are probably right about one night not being long enough, but unfortunately a long weekend was all we could do.

I read about Salt Lick earlier today, so I’m glad to hear about it once again. We’ll try to check it out on the way from Austin to San Antonio.

yumm… enjoy stubb’s! we had some awesome bbq there a few weeks back. is the yonder mountain show inside or out?
    enjoy!

  7. edpaffjr says:

Outside. I’ve always wanted to see this venue so I figured Yonder Mountain was a good enough excuse to check it out. Better than Slightly Stoopid the following night.

Hey let me know if you guys want to meet somewhere off the beaten track on your way up to Dallas on Sunday and I’ll meet you for some “Texas” size beers …. Rod …

  9. edpaffjr says:

Hey Todd, we’d love to meet up. My flight isn’t until nearly 8PM, so we should have some extra time on the way to Dallas.

  10. Todd James says:

Ed, we’ll figure out a time and a place to meet on Sunday. I have to attend a national diving meet in downtown Houston Sunday morning as TEKTONIC has 2 nationally ranked divers in our training programs. I should be able to bust ass up near the outskirts of Austin somewhere to meet you cats that early afternoon.
    We’ll talk soon. I’ve got a new phone number, its (281) 467-3188.

    Rod …

My expert advice would be skip Texas and go to a good state twice instead.

  12. edpaffjr says:

    Ha, I figured that’s what you’d say.

  13. Phil says:

There’s a cool Stevie Ray Vaughan memorial in Austin

  14. Todd James says:

Hey Phil the Mongomery County Bar-B-Q cookoff is this weekend. How ’bout flying down to Houston Friday. We need a fill-in brisket chef …
