So today I found out that working from home stint is about to come to an end. This is sad news, I know. I really enjoyed my time spent around the house and will be sad to see it go, but at least this gets me out of the house nearly every day. See, I’m trying to be positive. My company has always had an office in Denver, but my immediate boss decided to keep me out of the politics involved in that office. At that time there was also an office in Colorado Springs. Well they recently decided to merge the two offices into one, a brand new spot that isn’t too far from Kim’s office. Since the employees in Colorado Springs are now commuting all the way to Denver daily, they are making me do the same. Stupid corporate politics! March 31 is the tentative first date for me in the office.

I should have taken today off of work, especially since it seems like everyone else did. Oh well, just another few hours and it will be over until next Thursday! Plus, I get to go to the Bengals game on Sunday, my first home game of the season. Hopefully we can take down the Browns. And don’t forget to cheer the Bearcats to victory tomorrow afternoon in the Papa John’s Bowl. Merry Christmas everyone!
Man, what a boring day! Since the late morning hours I haven’t been able to get onto work since they are experiencing some sort of VPN problems. I don’t have anything work related on this computer at my house, so I have to connect to the VPN first and then remote desktop onto my computer in the office. So, without the VPN I cannot do anything. And to make matters worse, I’ve exhausted all of my web surfing for the day. I am out of things to look at. Maybe I’ll just read the news or something. I’m gonna need more coffee to get through the rest of the day, or maybe I should just take a nap.
Hello from Kansas City. I’m back in the office for the week working from a lovely cubicle. Obviously the work setting doesn’t compare to my luxurious home office, but there are a few nice things about these work trips. First, I really enjoy going out to eat for nearly every meal and not having to pay for it at all. It’s also nice to see all of my friends in KC and hit up some of the old stomping grounds like the Brooksider or 75th Street Brewery. However, the weather here just doesn’t compare to Denver. I stepped off the plane and even though I was still inside a jetway, I began sweating immediately. I’ll be here for the week, so if there is something exciting going on, give me a shout.
If you didn’t already know, I am back in Kansas City for a week of work in the office. I’m not here for any big reason, just to visit with everyone and get a few things configured on my work computer. Not a lot has changed here, in fact I feel like I just left. It’s been over three months since I was working in the office, and other than a different person using my actual office, things are still pretty familiar around here. It has been nice catching up with all of my work friends. I’ve even found the time to get in a game of tennis, tour someone’s new house, and even made a stop at the Brooksider, one of the old water holes. I’m not sure what’s on the plate for the next couple of days, so let me know if something big is going on…
The past two days have been my first experience working from home and I must say that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. When we make the move to Denver I’ll be doing this full time for at least a couple of months. And you know I actually was working since this post is coming so late in the day. My day is just about over though. Happy Friday!
This just in, my official job title is now “Software Quality Engineer 2.” Too bad they gave me a bunch of business cards that just say “Quality Assurance” on them. I guess I better order some new ones. In addition to the title I finally got my long awaited raise this morning. Ever since we first heard of our company’s buyout we were told that our salaries would be evaluated to make sure that they are on par with the area norm. I will say that the raise I got was more than the other two previous raises put together, but I’m still a decent amount below the average according to salary.com. I guess it’s better than nothing though. Now if I could only get out of here a little early to start the celebration! Good weekend to you all.
As bad as the weather is outside (over 100 degrees today not taking into account the humidity), I think the “weather” in our office is worse. Upon arriving at work the past couple of weeks, I would open my office door and immediately be hit with a wall of hot, still, nasty air. After leaving the door open for a little while, the air from the hall would mix and it would be comfortable at my desk. A few of us notified the administration of the problem and it was supposedly fixed yesterday.
I will admit that I didn’t have that wall of air when opening my office door this morning, so they must have done something. The problem now is that it is becoming too cold. I saw one of the members of the management team walk by, in route to his office, with a jacket on. My fingers are actually becoming numb while typing this, and the only solution I’ve found so far has been to sit on them and warm them up. Slight problem though, it’s hard to type while sitting on your hands though.
We just flipped the switch on the thermostat to “increase” from the “decrease” position. Hopefully we’ll be at a happy medium soon. If not I’ll have to consider bringing my ski gloves to work with me each day.
My apologies for the lack of updates today but we have entered “crisis mode” with one of our clients. They have a list of bugs that they want fixed and they want it done now!
Um… I’m gonna need you to go ahead and come in tomorrow. So if you could be here around 9:00, that would be great. Mm-kay? Oh, oh, and I almost forgot. Uh, I’m also gonna need you to go ahead and come in on Sunday too, ‘kay? We, um, lost some people this week and uh, we need to sort of play catch-up. Thanks.
Update: It’s past 7 and I’m still here. Where’s my overtime pay??
Things have been very busy around here. Not only do we have our move to deal with, but I also have my company’s move as well. Our office isn’t physically moving anywhere but we are starting the conversion process to Harris. Yesterday we had another full staff meeting to discuss the mound of paperwork that we now have to fill out and turn in by the end of the week. We’ve got the works: W-4’s, direct deposit setup, pay schedule, confidentiality agreements, conflict of interest, substance abuse policy, etc. I’m going to need an extra day this week just to get through it all.
Last night we brought over more things in the kitchen from the apartment to the house. Now we should actually be able to eat something besides pizza for dinner. I’d love to eat pizza everyday but I think Kim is getting tired of it. That or she is becoming brainwashed, because I think she was asking about specials at Papa John’s for tonight. Welcome to the world of pizza addiction, population two.
