I love the smell of commerce in the morning!

Friday night we met up with Doni and Phil at Jalapenos in Brookside for dinner. Good food as always! From there we went back to their place to play some cards. It started with Euchre which Doni and I won. We then played Pitch which is something Doni and Phil have taught us. The link is to the best site I found describing how they play this game. Again Doni and I were victorious! Eventually Kim and I headed out and stopped over at Mike’s place. After an hour or two they headed out to the bars and we ventured home. Quite a busy night for us…

Saturday we walked over to the new plaza library and discovered that it is not quite done yet. I guess it will be open in the spring. As I mentioned before the Chipotle is right there, but we didn’t stop since we were still full from breakfast. We walked through a few plaza stores and then headed up to Mike’s rooftop. It was a pretty nice day so him and Jeff decided to take some drinks up to the roof deck. We joined them and started another Euchre game. Mike and me versus Kim and Jeff. We won two out of three games, it was a good card weekend for me. We then headed down to Tomfooleries for dinner and drinks. The food was excellent and I had a few of the new Bud Selects, and it was even on tap. So far I am a fan and will have to pick some more up sometime soon. Jeff went home when he got a call from his sick girlfriend, and the rest of us went to our place. Kim went to bed shortly after, while Mike and I watched my all time fav Mallrats. He could quote just as much of the movie as I could, good times…

Sunday we spent the afternoon over at our gym but we weren’t working out. We sat in the hot tub, saunas, etc. I guess it was about time that I used these facilities. Not a bad way to spend the day. We had lunch at Panera, finishing up the last of our xmas gift cards and later in the night went to Susan’s for her Oscar party. I didn’t get to see much of the show because of hockey, but Chris Rock opened it up pretty well. Speaking of hockey, we won! That’s 3 weeks in a row I believe…

Kim’s friend Corinne is moving to Denver from Cincy and will be stopping in KC tonight…

Bobbi & Chris Visit

After work Friday we picked Bobbi and Chris up from the airport and headed back to our apartment for some drinks, checkers, music, darts, etc. Doni and Phil stopped over as well. This led to a brief discussion about our April trip to San Diego. I am now incharge of getting our hotel figured out. I think I’ll start bidding on priceline sometime soon. The rest of the night was a good time. It ended with the GCL (Chris and me) beating the GGCL (Kim and Bobbi) 2-1 in a few games of darts!

Saturday Kim and I made a big breakfast consisting of waffles, turkey bacon and goetta that Chris brought from Cincy. Doni and Phil came over again since they had never had goetta before. I too am relatively new to this stuff even though I lived in Cincy for quite some time. I must say that it is not bad stuff though. After breakfast we shopped on the Plaza for a few hours. Later in the day we headed down to Southwest Boulevard to have a late lunch at one of the authentic Mexican restaurants down there. Another good meal there, we have yet to be disappointed by any of the restaurants there. We then went to Union Station to see the train displays and we also watched a movie on natural disasters on the Extreme Screen. From there I took everyone on my own little tour of Kansas City. We first drove by Kauffman Stadium and Arrowhead Stadium. Next was a trip to Independence, MO which is the home of Harry Truman. I was pretty much out of ideas from there, but I knew that Bobbi and Chris needed to at least visit Kansas. I drove down to the most logical place I could think of, the Sprint world headquarters, haha. I guess Kansas really isn’t that exciting of a place. We finally decided to go to the Outlaws hockey game at Kemper Arena. They got killed by Kalamazoo but at least it was a good time. Pictures are now up from the day…

Sunday we had to drop them back off at the airport, but first we had lunch at Gates BBQ. I told them they had to have Kansas City BBQ before they left, and this place is quite the experience. After dropping them off, we had quite the typical Sunday. Grocery shopping, cleaning, etc. Later in the night we went over to Susans for tacos and Sopranos. That marked the end of another good weekend!

Friday night we met everyone up at the Brooksider for a little bit and then went over to Doni & Phil’s for some pizza and cards. We started off playing Texas Hold’em. Todd taught most of us how to play since most of us had only seen it on TV, if anything at all. Funny thing is, he was one of the first ones to be out of the game. I was one of the last 3, and the last guy left. Kim ended up winning the whole game. I guess we are going try to go up to the Brooksiders poker night this week. Maybe Kim can win a free CD player or whatever it is they give away.

Saturday we tried to find some white pimp shoes for my Halloween costume, but didn’t find anything for a cheap price. We finally just bought a pair of black shoes from goodwill for $4 and a can of spray paint. We’ll see how well this works. After a full day of shopping we decided to head to the rodeo. We paid $10 for the cheap seats, but I think we had one of the best views in the place. After the bullriding was over we were treated to an Uncle Kracker concert. Man that guy sucks. I think we lasted through about 3 cover songs and 1 of his own songs, and then left. At least the rodeo was good.

Yesterday I spent a couple hours working on the Sonic website. It’s coming along, and I’m probably going to show it to Joe soon to see what he thinks. Feel free to give any feedback: sonic.edpaffjr.com

I’ve decided not to play hockey on Monday nights. That league is falling apart, and they are basically having open hockey but you have to pay upfront, $100+ for 10 weeks. I’ll probably miss a handful of those weeks anyway. I’ll just stick with Sunday and Wednesday for this session. So tonight we are going to make our return to spinning. I hope Jeff is still instructing the class.

I’ve made my shows database public. You may not notice any differences at first, but check out all of the different menu options. To start browsing click here.

I think tonight we may be going to the brooksider for their Texas Hold’em Tournament. Todd is going back to defend his 2nd place finish…

This was a pretty boring week if you couldn’t already tell. It did go by super fast though with the office move and such. I like the new place more and more, and I think it’s a quicker drive for me now…

Kim’s college roommate (Amy) is here visiting for the weekend. She got in on Thursday night, so of course the girls wanted to go out that night. We ended up just going down to Tomfooleries for a few drinks and some decent cover band music. Last night we went down to see The Samples play. Todd came along with us, and we stuck around for a little while then ended up back at our apartment to play some euchre and darts. Todd and most other Missourians have no idea what euchre is, so we had to teach him the game, which he actually picked up on really quickly. If you are reading this and have never played the card game euchre, do yourself a favor and look it up online and then find 3 friends to play it with. Good times!

Have you ever held $1000 cash in your hands before? I actually did this last night. I went to the ATM before heading downtown for the concert. I accidentally hit an extra zero when pulling out some money. I thought there were usually limits on this kind of thing, but apparently not for this machine. It ended up spitting out 50 $20 bills. I couldn’t believe it. This bank wasn’t really in the best of areas either, so I quickly grabbed a deposit envelope and headed to the car, locked the doors, and prepared the envelope for a $900 deposit. Luckily I got it all back in the ATM safely. Good thing this was Kim’s account and not mine. :) We often wondered why this particular ATM was always out of cash, I guess we know now…

Tonight we are going to grill out some prime meats and then head down to the Irish Fest that is going on. Should be another great night!

Have a good and safe holiday weekend everyone!!!

Friday was a day of traveling. We flew to Indianapolis and had to get my brother to come pick us up. We finally got home around 1 I think. We messed around for a little bit, but when to bed soon enough. We knew we needed sleep for the next day…

Saturday was such a great day. How do you even sum up Pig-Fest? I think it is really hard to do unless you have been to one of these events. I had friends come in from all over the place. Chris arrived first, after a two day drive from Charlotte. We immediately started drinking on the Yuengling he brought along. Once he was there, the floodgates were open and my all of my buddies started pouring in. Tracey showed up with a bunch of boys from all over the place. Sharkey had driven from Rhode Island, and picked up Pat on the way. Dave flew in and so did Weeba. They added even more beer to the collection. Jay showed up with Corinna and Shell, they had a tent that was the size of our house. Liam, Fighty, Joe, Reif, Kim and Hazard all showed up as well, making shorter drives from all over Ohio. Someone said that there were 200 beers for 10 or so people, well that wasn’t enough I guess. American Cherry played some tunes for us as always, and sounded really tight. Tim read Pat’s biography over the microphone, funny stuff. The cops showed up, but were soon turned away after Tim told them the band was done playing, haha. Way too many storied I could tell, but it wouldn’t matter if you weren’t there. All my friends who came said that the party will definitely be on their list of events from now on!

Sunday we all said our goodbyes, then Kim and I headed over to her parents for a cookout. I was too tired to do much, but I did manage to lose yet another game of cornhole. Kim’s parents then drove us out to Indy, and we were on our way back here…

Some of the pictures my mom took with my camera are up on the pig-fest site. I also put my pics up from last weekend, finally…

Well Friday Kim and I headed off to Cincinnati. We were flying delta so that we could go directly there, but we always end up getting delayed on delta. They board everyone on the plane and then say that we are overweight, so they had to kick 3 people off the plane. We did eventually get to Cincy, and were able to easily rent a car. We headed downtown to the Hyatt to check in to our hotel. I got the room for $35 using biddingfortravel and priceline. We quickly got ready and met up with Liam, Fighty and Reif. From there we walked in the rain down to the show. We were just in time to get some beer before it was cut off at 10:45 (an hour and 15 minutes before the show would end). We then headed over to see Howie Day. I haven’t see him in a long time, and haven’t really had a desire to do so. He has been playing with a full band and that just ruins his old sound in my opinion. The good thing about this show was that it was just Howie solo, like it used to be. I was still unimpressed with most of the show though. After seeing Keller Williams a few times, I don’t find Howie’s looping skills to be all that great as I did before. I enjoyed some of the older songs that I heard so many times before but overall I doubt I’ll see him again anytime soon. After that we went to the hotel bar for a drink and went to bed…

Saturday we heading to the Hais’ household. It is always fun hanging out over there! I saw a few cicadas, but that was just because Kim’s brothers were out hunting them for bait. I bet they will be really bad when I got back to Cincy in a couple weeks. I also visited my mom and brothers. We took Tim with us back to Jammin On Main. We had a few rounds of beers in the hotel bar and headed to the show. Right as we were walking in Marc Broussard started his set. Good little show from Marc and the band. I think they gained some new fans for sure. We then spent the rest of the night running into old friends. I heard a few tunes from both G Love and the Offspring. We headed out to a bar downtown but didn’t stay very long.

Sunday I had LaRosa’s pizza! Man I have missed that place. Kim and I went to a few soccer games, and then headed back to the Hais’ for Amy’s birthday bash. We got to play some cornhole, although Chip and Chris killed me and Kim. We’ll get them next time…
I then had to head to the airport for my flight home. Before leaving I was making jokes about the plane being overbooked and that I would have to stay another night, etc. Well I get to the gate and the flight actually was overbooked. They were offering $400 in vouchers plus hotel and meals for switching to the first flight out Monday morning. I couldn’t refuse this offer, so I am now back in KC $400 richer than before!
Kim is in Ohio for the whole week, so I’m sure I’ll have plenty of time to get work done as well as time to get out with the guys!

Back to another wonderful week of work…

Let’s see, on Friday Kim and I took it easy since we had to get up somewhat early on Saturday. We played a few games of two player euchre in a few different ways. I tried to find directions on the internet, and found all kinds of different ways to play, so we tried them all. Perhaps I’ll post a link to our favorite version, I think we need a few more games though…

Saturday we did wake up early to get our butts out to Lawrence, KS. Bobbi was intown with the rest of the UC crew team. We drove out to some river in Lawrence just in time to see them getting their boat ready and heading off to start the race. It was pretty chilly out and the last place I would want to be was that close to the water, but these people are nuts anyway. They wake up way before the sun rises to get out on the water before classes start, reminds me of morning hockey practice, yuck! Back to the race though, those boats really move. I was surprised, but I heard that they do reach a speed of about 11 mph or so. Bobbi’s team won the race, beating both KU and K-State. Their time also beat UC’s first varsity team time!

Sunday was Easter, so happy belated Easter to everyone! My day was full of things to do. First, we went to the Royal’s game. This was the 6th game of the season I think, and the Royal’s were just about 500. We did see a win though, so they are now 4 and 2 on the season. Hopefully this won’t be the last game we see…
Later in the day I went out to 97.3 The Planet studios for the Sunday night show with Jim McCroy and Chris Phoenix. I listen to their program just about every week and therefore they invited me to come in and participate in a show. You probably remember the clip I put up before where they played some songs that I picked out, well this time I was going into the studios to talk about these songs and other musicians. I’ll try and get another clip up of some of the show highlights. Even though you don’t see anyone who is listening to what you are saying, it is still kind of intimidating. The guys said I did a good job though, and so did Kim. It was a great time, and hopefully I’ll be able to do it again…
