What A Mess

Yesterday turned into a crazily busy day. I stayed at work a little longer since I had some stuff to do and with Kim gone there was no reason to rush home. When I finally did make it home, I quickly cooked up some pizza rolls and attempted to fix my web server. My hockey game at 7PM was quickly approaching, and I still had to stop by Doni and Phil’s to feed the cat. Somehow I did all of this and made it to the game “right on time!”

After my game I returned home to a funky smell coming from the apartment. I opened the door and realized that a bottle of wine had somehow exploded all over the kitchen. The bottle didn’t explode, just all of the liquid inside. I guess in my rushed state I left the oven on and this somehow caused this incident. The wine rack sits above the stove, on top of the fan. The bottle was opened a day or two earlier but as always we recapped it and put it back on the rack. I guess the heat from the oven somehow caused too much pressure, forcing the stopper out and then the entire bottle of wine. It took nearly an hour and a half to clean up, and that is why I missed the gym this morning. Anyone have a better explanation? I should have taken some pictures of the mess…

Bobbi & Chris Visit

After work Friday we picked Bobbi and Chris up from the airport and headed back to our apartment for some drinks, checkers, music, darts, etc. Doni and Phil stopped over as well. This led to a brief discussion about our April trip to San Diego. I am now incharge of getting our hotel figured out. I think I’ll start bidding on priceline sometime soon. The rest of the night was a good time. It ended with the GCL (Chris and me) beating the GGCL (Kim and Bobbi) 2-1 in a few games of darts!

Saturday Kim and I made a big breakfast consisting of waffles, turkey bacon and goetta that Chris brought from Cincy. Doni and Phil came over again since they had never had goetta before. I too am relatively new to this stuff even though I lived in Cincy for quite some time. I must say that it is not bad stuff though. After breakfast we shopped on the Plaza for a few hours. Later in the day we headed down to Southwest Boulevard to have a late lunch at one of the authentic Mexican restaurants down there. Another good meal there, we have yet to be disappointed by any of the restaurants there. We then went to Union Station to see the train displays and we also watched a movie on natural disasters on the Extreme Screen. From there I took everyone on my own little tour of Kansas City. We first drove by Kauffman Stadium and Arrowhead Stadium. Next was a trip to Independence, MO which is the home of Harry Truman. I was pretty much out of ideas from there, but I knew that Bobbi and Chris needed to at least visit Kansas. I drove down to the most logical place I could think of, the Sprint world headquarters, haha. I guess Kansas really isn’t that exciting of a place. We finally decided to go to the Outlaws hockey game at Kemper Arena. They got killed by Kalamazoo but at least it was a good time. Pictures are now up from the day…

Sunday we had to drop them back off at the airport, but first we had lunch at Gates BBQ. I told them they had to have Kansas City BBQ before they left, and this place is quite the experience. After dropping them off, we had quite the typical Sunday. Grocery shopping, cleaning, etc. Later in the night we went over to Susans for tacos and Sopranos. That marked the end of another good weekend!

Spinning was fun. The instructor (Jeff) was happy to see “the buckeyes” as he calls us. Kim is somehow buckeye #1 and I’m #2, what’s that all about? I think I’m a much better spinner. :) I forgot how much of a workout that was. He had us turning the resistance up so much my wheel stopped. I had to start all over at one point. It’s not one of those super sweaty workouts, like running is, but it is a longer workout.

After that we cooked chili with ground turkey. I’ve never cooked ground anything, so that was kind of interesting. I still couldn’t eat the chili plain in a bowl though, I had to put it over spaghetti just like my skyline. I guess I’m a weirdo, but I find it hard to eat something I don’t like just because it was made with turkey, which is something I do like. I don’t eat turkey burgers, never have and I don’t want to try one either. The thought of eating a burger does not appeal to me, so I’m not going to eat a burger. Once I got it on spaghetti though and topped it with a bunch of cheddar it wasn’t that bad. I had a couple bowls of it actually. I just found the whole thing kind of strange, but I bet this won’t be the last time we make it. Kim really enjoyed it…

There is supposedly a blues pub crawl in westport tonight that we might go to, that is if we can find any info on it. I’ve been googling for hours over the past day and haven’t found anything. Little help anyone? :)
