In addition to my curling addiction, I’ve tried to keep up with as much of the Olympic hockey action as I possibly can. Fortunately, nbcolympics.com has a very nice Silverlight player that is available for streaming lots of live events, especially hockey and curling. I was able to follow along with the USA hockey game this afternoon, even if I only listened to the audio most of the time. The really cool thing is that the video player seems to automatically adjust the quality based on your connection. So rather than dropping out and buffering the video, it can simply display a lower bit-rate and then automatically switch to a higher one when the connection improves. I’m not really too familiar with Silverlight, but this feature seems really desirable compared to current flash video players.

i loved being able to watch the game at work. really solid player

  2. Did you have to fill out your cable provider on that? If its the same one that I used on Sunday night I had to create an online account using my Time Warner acct number and other information. Then when I finally went back to log into it I got an error message saying that I didn’t have access. I’m guessing because I only have internet they won’t give me cable access through the site which is very annoying after jumping through all the hoops.

Ended up going to channelsurfing.net and watching the last 10 minutes of Sunday night’s game. So awesome…GO USA!

Yeah, I think that player is the only one on that site. I think I heard of issues with Time Warner and the player. We have comcast and have no issues using it. Though it would be nice if it was free for all. Thanks for the other link. I will have to check that out.
