So yesterday I had some classes which were pretty uneventful. As I was walking to my car, I ran into Amanda’s old roommate Melissa. We talked a few minutes, and she let me know that I should come over to their new apartment sometime. I told her that I needed to help Nicole with a project, so that I would be over there sometime. It had been awhile since I saw her, and it was cool doing a little catching up. After that, I left and went home. Some good times were had on the OAR message board yesterday, when everyone was talking about our Nashville road trip, and actually people still are. I did lots of procrastinating, but eventually I did about an hour of homework. Shortly after that, it was time to head down to Clifton. I went and picked Kelly up and we went down to Fighty’s house for a little bit, and then over to Liam and Callsen’s place. We drank the rest of the Jager from the weekend, and had some more New Castles. Later on Kelly decided it was time to go to Murphy’s for some drinks and to meet up with Chad and others. It was a good time full with lots of drinks and lots of pool. As we left the bar, EJ and Danielle called me on my phone drunk as hell. I love those guys, and somehow I am supposed to convince them to go to Charlottesville. Then Kelly informed me that she was going to stay with Chad. I’m not sure why, but I really didn’t like that idea. She was wasted, and I was trying to talk to her, but it wasn’t working. I eventually just told her that I didn’t care, and she told me not to pretend like I don’t, and then I told her that she doesn’t care about me. I guess she took that last statement further than the way I meant it to be, cause she was crying. Eventually I left, and walked over towards my car. I decided that I really didn’t want to drive home, so I went back to Liam’s house. He was still awake listening to the Earlham VACO show, so I sat and enjoyed that with him. At this time, I also did some writing about all the stuff that happened outside of the bar, and just in my day to day activities. I may decide to share that somewhere. After chillin’ for a little bit, I crashed on their couch and woke up this morning to come to this lab class. Have a good one!

Friday night, I went to Clifton after picking my friend Dan (Wacko for all the board peps) from the greyhound station. Kelly and I went to Murphy’s Pub with Brad and some others. It was fun, but we ended up staying a lot longer than I wanted to. Oh well, I was still able to get a good amount of sleep. So on Saturday, we went to my house and I packed up all my stuff for the road trip to Nashville. We had 11 people there: Me, Kelly, Ryan Fighty, Liam, Dan, Bob Tangus, Jenn Swoothie, Matt Milafalo and his roommate Matt, and then we met up with EJ and Danielle in Nashville. The trip down was easy and went by fast at 90 mph, until we hit the damn traffic. We sat in bumper to bumper traffic for over an hour. In that time, we managed to play a little football, see wacko fall while trying to catch a pass and rip his jeans, toss a tennis ball at each others cars, have some fun with people honking horns (especially the bus), and bump some 2Pac. We met up with the BAMA folks down at the venue, where we immediately picked up some tickets and talked to Marc for a bit. Then we went to the hotel, and soon learned that they screwed up and didn’t have my reservation in their computer. The lady working the desk was really nice and ending up hooking us up with one regular room and a suite for the price I was quoted at. We brought down a bottle of Jagermeister and Captains, and then bought 3 18 packs of Natty and 6 New Castles. So we got all checked in and I ended up paying 12 bucks for some valet guy to park my car. My one complaint about nashville, not enough parking. Then the fun began, Liam, Ryan and I pounded our New Castles along with the Jager. Then it was Natty time. Fighty and I did a little jamming, until he broke one of EJ’s guitar strings. We did manage to get a pretty good “In My Life” -> “Poker.” I also sang my version of “Faith” for everyone even without any music to help me along. So after a bunch of drinking, we manage to get everyone that was left in the rooms onto the street for the walk to the venue. Of course we had some fun walking to the place. Wacko was stealing flags from cars, and checking out the hot dog stand. :) We picked up some random guy named Scott on the side of the street and convinced him to go to the show. He used my pass to get in, and I still got it back! So we get in and listen to Llama some, drink a bunch more, and pass my cowboy hat all around to everyone, then the OAR show started. I was having a blast dancing around, talking to every and any girl I could find. Kelly didn’t like that too much, I think she was a little jealous but I made it up to her. I remember seeing Fighty sitting on a bar stool passed out for a little bit. I saw Wacko for most of the show, I think he was following me around taking pictures most of the time. I think I almost lost my hat to about 10 different girls, but somehow I still have that thing. The board was having a great time at the back of the place, dancing around like a bunch of fools. I remember hearing Marc thanking us for coming out, and saying something about coming down front. I can’t do that though, cause I need lots of space to dance. :) The show was a bunch of fun, and the crowd seemed to really enjoy it. After the show, I talked with the guys for a bit, and mentioned something about a broken guitar string on EJ’s guitar, and how we couldn’t play anymore. Rich tried to hook me up with a string, but it was the wrong one, so next thing I know Marc passed me a whole set. I don’t know much about guitars and all that, but I guess they are really nice strings. Thanks guys! We went out back where everyone was just hanging around. Wacko and the Matts stole the pumpkins that Llama had out there, but Joel soon busted one of them over Liam’s head. We were having a good time hanging out, but EJ and I soon realized that we wanted to go to the hillbilly bars. The girls were off somewhere so we just left with some of the others. Along this trip on the streets Dan and I try to steal a sign, but we almost got caught so I blamed it all on Dan and ran away. EJ and I hit up this place that was supposed to be the best bar in town. The only thing that I though was good, was the fiddle player in the band there. She was hot too! I remember hearing “Sweet Home Alabama” and EJ was actually singing along to it. That band finished up so we went into some other bar, where Pabst was the beer of choice. We had some of those and listened to another country band, complete with a stand up bass and a steel guitar. I ended up with a drumstick from that band, not sure how though. So all the bars close and we make our way back to the hotel. Along the way I was hitting that drum stick on anything I could find. The scaffolding I was playing towards the end was really cool, but then Kelly showed up and drug us back to the hotel. Kelly somehow managed to order some pizza, and I still have no clue the name of the place. We ate that drank a few more and passed out. Oh yeah but before passing out, I had to kick Liam’s drunk ass and try and push him under the sink. Somehow we also managed to break an ironing board. The trip ended very well though, and it was a ton of fun. Check out some of Dan’s pics, there are almost 300 of them. He took like 600 total, so I guess that isn’t that bad. Here’s a link.

Wow, I’ve been so busy lately. Well since I posted that on Tuesday, I’ve been doing alot of homework, but it’s paying off. On my second test I have gotten back I got a 91. On Wednesday night I went to the Old Saloon just like every other Wednesday. This time I was sick, however I was still suckered into singing “Faith.” This was my worst rendition ever. Oh well, everyone still enjoyed it. Last night I went up to Miami to see a Red Wanting Blue show. It was a blast, even though I didn’t get to bed until 5:30. I wonder why. :) Oh yeah, I also met up with that girl Jessica at the show, and I was sober this time. She seemed really cool and invited us to come up there sometime to play flip cup. I need to learn this game, cause that’s all everyone ever talks about. I’m sitting here at work, wondering when this day will end. I need to nap, but I probably won’t cause it’s Friday. I am definitely going to Nashville tomorrow. This is going to be a ton of fun, I can’t wait. Well back to work for now…

2001-10-23

As you can tell I didn’t really get a chance to write here over the weekend, because well we drank a bunch and partied pretty hard. Friday, I left work around 4, and got down to Liam and Cally’s place shortly after 5. They had bought 3 kegs for the weekend, so I walked in the door and was pretty much handed a huge 23 oz or so cup. We drank and drank, until about 7:15 (I think) and at that point we started the walk over to Bogart’s. We get in and immediately reserve some tables up on the balcony, but we leave them to go say hi to all the people down front, and when we get back, they are all taken. So we just kind of moved down to just in front of the soundboard, where we like to stand for non-OAR shows anyways. Oh yeah, I also went up to the bar right away, and got me one of the famous Old Styles. This night was really shaping up, and more and more board people were coming around. I can remember CallyCal, Liam, Fighty, Jaret, Vedder, Peccer, Wacko, Kraut, Hazard, Carrie, Mike, Gwyn, Pitcock, Weeba, b man, JessicaOSU, Tangus, Jason Leon, Rick (working the merch), Mysterious Daze (Nick), and probably some more I am forgetting. I met up with this girl Jessica, and gave her the CD’s I promised to bring her. This was much later into the night though, cause I was feeling the grove and dancing and forgot to talk to her for a bit, which I really wanted to do. This night was going well, until Nick asked me to get him a couple drinks. I agreed, and went up to the bar, where the guy behind there told me I was cutoff (maybe it was the fact that I already had some Old Styles with me). So I gave him shit for a little while, but soon realized he wasn’t giving in, so I turn to walk back to everyone. Well this girl comes running out of nowhere and takes the money right out of my hands. So I guess I called her a few names, and these guys she was with came up. Well security saw this, and threw me out along with CallyCal and my friend Mack from class. I was pissed, and I began yelling at the Bogart’s staff, but Nick came up with the idea to go around back. So we did, and I used my pass to get back into the show, and it was going well again. Until the guy who kicked me the first time saw me again, and told me I was committing criminal trespassing and threw me out again. I think I got thrown out again, at least that is what everyone tells me. So after that, CallyCal, Jessica and I just sat by the back door taunting the staff when they would peak their heads out. I think I vandalized a little bit as well, but this place deserves it cause I really did nothing. Anyways after the show we all meet up out back, talk to the band for a little bit, and then head back to the party. Along the way, I think I grabbed a traffic cone from somewhere and put it on my head for the walk back. Good fun! The rest of the night was pretty drunk, and we tried to play the guitars some more but it wasn’t working well. Eventually we all fell asleep, some much earlier than others. The next morning we woke up, and decided it was time to start thinking about Columbus. So, all the Columbus crew heads out from the party house, and we decide to get some Skyline and then make a few stops and head up to Vedder’s. Once we get up there, we are greeted with even more Natty Light and even some Beast. We start drinking as soon as we can, and soon after that begins the “Oakland Sessions.” This was the little jam session we had at Vedder’s, and Tangus actually recorded it. One hell of a pre-show party. The show at the Newport started with a huge line out front, which we totally skipped over and went up front, but there weren’t that many of us. We get in, and head to the balcony, where some other board folk are already. Some of us (the 21+ crowd) find the 32 oz draft beers and start on those. The opener, Howie Day, put on a very entertaining show, as did OAR. I would rate this one of the best, if not the best, OAR show of all time. OLD MAN TIME! I of course was shoeless in the balcony, dancing the night away. Cally got kicked out again and he doesn’t even know why, but we were all really banged up. After the show we hit up Ari’s place for a bit, where I talk to Howie about Lobsters and other misc. shit. On the walk away from there, through this ally, we start the freestyle walking. I think I ended up in a dumpster one time, and I also cut up my elbow. Ouch! Me and Weeba, hit up the Northberg Tavern with some guy who ends up buying us each a shot and a beer. Pretty cool shit. We didn’t stay there long, but we end up talking to this guy (Cecil) and these two hotties for quite some time. I have no clue what was even said. I guess it was getting late, cause later on we heard that all the other guys wanted to send out a search party for us. We end up stealing a parking sign, and eventually making it back to Vedder’s. The rest of the night was full of beer and sleep. And then on the next morning, we wake up and once again realize we have to make another drive. So we get on that as soon as possible after a stop at the Wendy’s up on High (one of them, it’s Bama’s favorite one). We get back into Cincy, and realize there is still beer in the kegs. So after I got a quick shower (my feet were filthy) we start drinking once again. Banged up night number 3, and it’s a Sunday. We make it to the show and pick the same spot we had on Friday. The board was represented very very well once again. This time we added Matt (mfl….) into the mix and possibly some others I can’t remember. Kelly also came to this show, and enjoyed herself talking to guys the whole night. :) This show was the 2nd best of the weekend for me, and we got to hear Ladanday one more time. That’s always a treat. No one got kicked out of the show, which was the first time in the weekend. We walk back, stealing some congressional signs or something and drink more and more. At last count, it was 4 am, and we all had class the next day. Nick was still with us, and was supposed to get on a bus at 5 am to get back to Dayton, but he missed his cab. The next morning we all woke up fairly on time, and tried to go to as many classes as possible. I hit up 75% which isn’t bad at all. I didn’t do much of anything last night, except look at pictures and talk to everyone over IM. What a great weekend and the stories just keep coming and coming…

Didn’t write yesterday cause I never made it home between 9 am and 3 am. What a great day. I saw Jimmy Fallon do a comedy show down on campus last night, after attempting to study for my Probability and Statistics test that was today. After that, I immediately took a car load of people up to Miami U (The Stadium) to see Ordinary Peoples. What a fantastic shows that was, and it really got me pumped up for tonight and the rest of this ROCKTOBER weekend. For those of you who have no clue what I’m talking about, OAR is playing 3 straight nights of shows, 2 in Cincy and 1 in Columbus. I’m going to get to see a bunch of people I haven’t seen since the beginning of the summer, and also get the chance to drink a lot of beer. So I would not anticipate another journal entry for a couple of days. Time to go get some work done and get out of here. Have a nice weekend…

2001-10-17

Well yesterday after class, I attempted to do homework, but Kelly came over and of course needed to talk. I finished all the stuff that I needed to get done, but nothing past that. Then I had a flag football game with all the Cincy OAR fans. We lost by a touchdown, so we are now 0-1-1. That game was freezing, but turned out alright once we got moving. After that I just went home after jamming at fighty’s for a little bit. Had a few drinks, and went to bed. Today was my long day at class, didn’t make it home until 6:30 or so, and I started at 10. I’m really starting to get excited for this weekend, it’s going to be a great and drunken time. Tonight I have a hockey game and then I’m going to the Old Saloon like always on Wednesdays for karaoke (hopefully I am spelling that right now). Now it’s time to do some homework and study for my test on Friday.

2001-10-16

I just got back from class, and I just wanted to say that I got my first real test back today and I got a 100 on it! This quarter isn’t looking so bad after all…

Right now, I’m sitting in UC’s library attempting to do research on a history paper I should start to write soon. The day has been pretty unproductive so far, but very tiring. Or maybe it’s just the fact that I didn’t get enough sleep last night and now I’m regretting it. Like every other Monday night, I headed up to Murphy’s in Clifton last night. The typical crowd was there, and my friend Doug from class even showed up. I kept thinking that I should leave by 1, but I didn’t make it out of there until 2:30. Finally got to bed at 3:30 after talking to Kelly for quite some time, trying to help her solve all of her own problems. This meant that I would get about three and half hours of sleep, because I had to get up for my 9 o’clock lab. Only one more class today, and then lots more homework to do, before playing in a flag football game at 10:50 tonight. It’s going to be a cold and wet one. Well I’m hungry, time to do some research and then get some food.

I’m going to start a journal after I had a very interesting weekend, and would now like to have some way to remember all of these crazy times. What this consisted of was two Woodside Quinn shows. The first one involved lots of alcohol at the bar, something like 90 dollars for 2 people. That night ended in a hotel room which was paid for by Kelly. Yeah! The second night was not that bad at the bar, but then we went partying until 5 in the morning out in the sticks of Wilmington, OH. Sunday was eventless for the most part, except my hockey team won and we are now in first place. Right now, I’m struggling to get all of my homework done so that I can have a great time at this weekends OAR concerts without worrying about too much.
