Back To The Grind

The last week really flew by!   I can’t believe little Trey is already over a week old and that I am back to work and the daily grind.   Before I dig too far into the work week, I’d like to recap last week.   Trey has been a wonderful baby so far.   He sleeps a ton (though not through the entire night yet) and is a terrific eater.   He quickly gained back most of  the weight he lost the first couple of days and should be back above his birth weight by now.   We haven’t got Trey into a solid routine yet, but that should change as the weeks continue to pass.      We made it out of the house three times last week, each time for lunch and an errand or two.   I’m hoping Kim can continue to get out of the house even with just her to get everything ready.   There are already a bunch of photos over on kimandedjr.com, so be sure to check those out if you haven’t already.   Here are just a few of my favorites.

Three Generations Of Edward John

Yesterday sure was an exciting day.   Edward John Paff III (Trey) was born at 1:40 PM MST on Sunday January 9, 2011, just five days before his due date.   He came into this world weighing in at seven pounds fifteen ounces and twenty and a half inches tall.   He has blue eyes (for now) and a nice head of dark hair (complete with some mini sideburns).   Both mom and baby are doing fantastic!

I’m writing this from SkyRidge  hospital from a luxurious private room with our own shower and even a futon for me to sleep.   Trey spent the night with us last night and all three of us managed to get a pretty good night of rest.   Kim is up and taking her first walk outside of the room since we moved here after delivery.   It’s a bitterly cold day outside in Colorado with over a half-foot of snow on the ground.

We should be  discharged from the hospital tomorrow morning and I suppose that’s when the real fun begins.   I will be taking off work for the rest of the week to help out.   So far Trey has been very easy-going  (except when the nurses and doctors mess with him too much).   He’s also a great eater and spends most of the time sleeping (even when he should be feeding).

More photos can be found over at kimandedjr.com.   I’m not sure how much I will be blogging this week, but I will try to keep posting photos.

Baby Update

Today would have been a cool day for our son to be  born, but I think we are running out of time.   January 5th was my grandmother’s birthday (dad’s side of the family).   She was a great woman who was taken from us way too early.   I was pretty young when she died twenty years ago, but she still had a big impact on me.

We are still over a week away from the due date, but I think we are all ready for him to be born.   There is still the chance that he could be born on 1/11/11, so maybe that’s what he is waiting for.   For more thoughts on all of this head over to  kimandedjr.com, where Kim and I are continuing to blog about all things baby.

Deck The Halls With Boughs Of Holly

I’m working hard today so I can try to get out of here early.   With that said this will be a short posting.   I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas weekend.   I have both Friday and Monday off of work, which I am really looking forward to.   I may try to spend Monday out on the slopes since Kim will still be working that day.   Either way it should be a nice weekend, filled with lots of relaxing and more preparing for the baby.

I haven’t given up on my annual NOW That’s What Ed Calls Music compilation.   Without traveling for Christmas this year, I haven’t had a deadline to get it done.   I’m hoping I can still get something out by the end of this year.   So stay tuned.

Baby Pool

I put together one of those baby pools where you can guess the delivery date, size of the baby, etc.   Originally I was thinking of making it a money pool, but that seemed like too much work to collect the money.   So the entries are free and take very little time.   Please follow this link to enter your guesses.   You have less than 30 days to enter.   Maybe we will find some kind of prize to give the winner.   Best of luck!

Nursery Is Ready

Saturday was a productive day for us at the Paff house.   We spent the majority of the day working on the baby’s room.   Details can be found over at kimandedjr.com.

It's a jungle in there!

Making Sacrifices

Our son  isn’t even born yet, and I’m already making sacrifices.   During a routine exam of the little guy this morning, I was given a flu shot!   This may sound like no big deal to many, but I’ve never had a flu shot, and I can’t remember another shot since I was given the chickenpox vaccine many years ago.   Yes, that’s right, I never had the chickenpox.   I’ve always had a bit of a needle phobia, but I sucked it up today just for the future.   Infants cannot get the flu shot when under six months in age, so we have to do what we can to prevent bringing the flu home.   I haven’t had the flu since I was little, and I don’t think Kim ever has, but you can never be too safe.   We wouldn’t want to get this little guy sick, would we?

A New Generation

Kim and I traveled back to Cincinnati over the weekend.   Our families hosted a couple of baby showers for the ladies  on both Saturday and Sunday.   Saturday was at my parents house, while Sunday was at the Hais’ house.   Many of the guys got together on Saturday afternoon to play a quick round of golf before heading over to my parents for a mini Pig-Fest  party.   My parents decided not to have their annual summer blowout this year, and instead had a small family gathering with pulled pork sandwiches, cornhole, and a giant TV screen to watch videos and football.

Despite not having a band, wiffle  ball, or other Pig-Fest staples, we had a great time.   It was definitely way more low-key than past parties, but I think many people enjoyed that.   Time will tell if my parents will go back to having a big “Pig” but I’m hoping that they do.   How can our future child never experience one of these legendary parties?   Here are some pictures my mom took from the baby shower and mini Pig-Fest.

Bob Wehaveababyitsaboy

Does anyone remember that Geico  commercial that featured a collect call from Bob Wehadababyitsaboy?   I can’t be the only one.   Here is a YouTube link if you need a reminder.

Anyway, we are having a baby and it is a boy! We actually found out a few weeks ago, but it was confirmed  at yesterdays twenty week appointment. I added some pictures and additional information over on kimandedjr.com  to go along with all the entries Kim has added over the last couple of months.   Be sure to check it out.   Here is one of my favorite images from yesterday.

Your Regularly Scheduled Program

Today I’m taking a break from your regularly scheduled blog postings to contribute to kimandedjr.com:

Lately Kim has been soliciting  advice from many of her female friends, family, and coworkers who have kids. She is asking them what items they couldn’t live without when starting to raise a child. The response has been great so far, with lots of advice ranging from strollers, car-seats, and furniture all the way to toys, playpens, and even nursing supplies. While some of this has been really interesting to me, especially the stroller and toys, I can’t help but wonder if there are some items that the moms are missing from their lists. What items do dads find necessary for raising children? With few friends having kids of their own, I’m forced to rely on the wisdom of the Internet.
