Baby Update

Today would have been a cool day for our son to be  born, but I think we are running out of time.   January 5th was my grandmother’s birthday (dad’s side of the family).   She was a great woman who was taken from us way too early.   I was pretty young when she died twenty years ago, but she still had a big impact on me.

We are still over a week away from the due date, but I think we are all ready for him to be born.   There is still the chance that he could be born on 1/11/11, so maybe that’s what he is waiting for.   For more thoughts on all of this head over to  kimandedjr.com, where Kim and I are continuing to blog about all things baby.

Baby Pool

I put together one of those baby pools where you can guess the delivery date, size of the baby, etc.   Originally I was thinking of making it a money pool, but that seemed like too much work to collect the money.   So the entries are free and take very little time.   Please follow this link to enter your guesses.   You have less than 30 days to enter.   Maybe we will find some kind of prize to give the winner.   Best of luck!

Nursery Is Ready

Saturday was a productive day for us at the Paff house.   We spent the majority of the day working on the baby’s room.   Details can be found over at kimandedjr.com.

It's a jungle in there!

Making Sacrifices

Our son  isn’t even born yet, and I’m already making sacrifices.   During a routine exam of the little guy this morning, I was given a flu shot!   This may sound like no big deal to many, but I’ve never had a flu shot, and I can’t remember another shot since I was given the chickenpox vaccine many years ago.   Yes, that’s right, I never had the chickenpox.   I’ve always had a bit of a needle phobia, but I sucked it up today just for the future.   Infants cannot get the flu shot when under six months in age, so we have to do what we can to prevent bringing the flu home.   I haven’t had the flu since I was little, and I don’t think Kim ever has, but you can never be too safe.   We wouldn’t want to get this little guy sick, would we?

A New Generation

Kim and I traveled back to Cincinnati over the weekend.   Our families hosted a couple of baby showers for the ladies  on both Saturday and Sunday.   Saturday was at my parents house, while Sunday was at the Hais’ house.   Many of the guys got together on Saturday afternoon to play a quick round of golf before heading over to my parents for a mini Pig-Fest  party.   My parents decided not to have their annual summer blowout this year, and instead had a small family gathering with pulled pork sandwiches, cornhole, and a giant TV screen to watch videos and football.

Despite not having a band, wiffle  ball, or other Pig-Fest staples, we had a great time.   It was definitely way more low-key than past parties, but I think many people enjoyed that.   Time will tell if my parents will go back to having a big “Pig” but I’m hoping that they do.   How can our future child never experience one of these legendary parties?   Here are some pictures my mom took from the baby shower and mini Pig-Fest.

Bob Wehaveababyitsaboy

Does anyone remember that Geico  commercial that featured a collect call from Bob Wehadababyitsaboy?   I can’t be the only one.   Here is a YouTube link if you need a reminder.

Anyway, we are having a baby and it is a boy! We actually found out a few weeks ago, but it was confirmed  at yesterdays twenty week appointment. I added some pictures and additional information over on kimandedjr.com  to go along with all the entries Kim has added over the last couple of months.   Be sure to check it out.   Here is one of my favorite images from yesterday.

Your Regularly Scheduled Program

Today I’m taking a break from your regularly scheduled blog postings to contribute to kimandedjr.com:

Lately Kim has been soliciting  advice from many of her female friends, family, and coworkers who have kids. She is asking them what items they couldn’t live without when starting to raise a child. The response has been great so far, with lots of advice ranging from strollers, car-seats, and furniture all the way to toys, playpens, and even nursing supplies. While some of this has been really interesting to me, especially the stroller and toys, I can’t help but wonder if there are some items that the moms are missing from their lists. What items do dads find necessary for raising children? With few friends having kids of their own, I’m forced to rely on the wisdom of the Internet.

Kim Is Blogging!

If you haven’t been back to kimandedjr.com  since I last wrote about it, here is a friendly reminder.   Kim has already written two blog posts and there are some good conversations going on over there.   She seems to be  falling into a weekend blogger, which is the complete opposite of myself, so be sure to check in at least weekly.   We haven’t added any new baby pictures yet, but lately all the talk is about baby names.   We had the chance  to visit some friends of ours who just had twin boys, and they also got us thinking about all the fun stuff we are going to need in the near future.   Busy times are ahead!

Ed & Kim Plus 1

If you haven’t already heard, I am going to be  a father!   Kim is pregnant and due on January 14, 2011.   We couldn’t be more excited.   We have lots to do between now and then with the house, so I’m sure the time will really fly by.   We converted our old wedding website into a blog for baby updates, so be sure to check out kimandedjr.com.   There are already a bunch of ultrasound photos there and I’m sure there will be many more to follow.   I’m trying to convince Kim to post on the blog, and hopefully she will add an entry soon.   Be sure to check back regularly for updates on the baby.
