Cooking With Bourbon

Without a bar in the house we’ve been forced to keep our rather large collection of booze on a bookshelf in the kitchen. We’ve even managed to fill the bookshelf beyond it’s limits. So last night I decided to use some of the liquor for my cooking. I found a recipe for a bourbon chicken marinade online that appeared to be right up our alley. I had to make a few modifications since we appear to be out of garlic powder and I didn’t have dried minced onion. Instead I used about half a clove of regular garlic and about one tbsp of garlic powder.

I fired up the grill for the first time this summer and cooked some potatoes on there as well. I also steamed some broccoli to go along with the meat and potatoes. Everything was very tasty, especially the chicken. The marinade smelled a little strong on the bourbon, but the taste was just right after cooking. Next time I want to let the marinade sit on the meat a little longer, but that’s about all I would change.

This Is The Second Stop

Last night we had the pleasure of taking Phil to his first DMB show. His life is now complete. I think that overall he enjoyed the show. In fact I recall him saying that the show was probably in his top three of all time. Of course this is coming from a man who’s last show out at Verizon was The Outfield.

For me the show started off to rocking with a song (JTR) that I haven’t heard live in nearly six years. There were lots of highlights including Dancing Nancies -> Warehouse, Raven (another song I haven’t heard in years) and Smooth Rider, among others. I was a little worried about the weather since it rained on my entire drive home, but it cleared up just in time for us to tailgate for an hour or so and then head in for the show.

I would probably give the show an 8.5 mainly because the encore was a little weak. I did love the solo acoustic performance of the new song Sister though. Still it was an amazing first show for Phil and Kim actually said at the end of the night that she is getting more and more into DMB. I’m glad she is because we still have three more shows to go to toward the end of the tour!
